i certainly do not like the marvel movies. they have lame attempts at humor.
i did like thor ragnarok and black panther. i did not like the colonizer remarks in that movie, though.

dc's movies are total trash but they do have some great animated films.

there's not much i do like, but i usually go for mindfuck movies;i like a surpise.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are probably the only recent ones I really liked. It just feels like superhero movies have been done to death though, and most of the recent ones seem fairly drawn out too, at around 2 and a half or 3 hours long. I don't think they really need to be that long.

I think Predestination (2014) isn't bad for that, if you haven't seen it.

It was a great movie. I really should watch Predestination again.

Chronicle was probably one of the more recent "Superhero" type movies that I actually liked (even though it's about 10 years old now). While the "handycam" type filming technique does get a bit annoying I still enjoyed it for something that wasn't just throwing as much CGI as they could.

And while I did enjoy the first one, Shazam Fury of the Gods was another waste of time. I really wanted to like it as I love Helen Mirren and enjoyed the first one but I couldn't get into it.

I agree and I'd indeed feel sad unless I've ignored it and keep trying to find and watch my own movie niches.

I don't trust brands and hype.. brand + hype brought together is something I distrust and watch later if anyhow..

But you're totally right. Marvel, SW is like that Zombie shit when postapo tv series triggered in and Hollywood followed with Z and stuff..

I liked the new D&D movie though, I liked Stranger Things over past few years, Witcher on Netflix isn't that bad.. watchable. Wednesday too.

I watch some pop-culture orientated documentaries that were recorded max 10 years ago, like the one about Aliens, Teenage Turtles Ninja creators or He-Man story connecting toys, animated series from the 80s and the backstage considerations for the movie with Dolph Lundgren.

You have to be picky and curious to find good movies these days, they are rarely those that are advertised most. But that just makes it more interesting and apparently, old fashioned ;)

I like recent revival of Polish gangster/action/thriller movies, also a lot of drama movies that can astonish a viewer. The style is very raw or to try to add some realism to situations that generate danger.. no hollywood colorizing. death, murder.. this kind of stuff is scary, not in the horror terms, but real life experience terms.. psychologically.

You cannot watch them too often, too much, but once you hit one, you'll understand the style immediately. They are fully commercial, no grants and gain a lot of theater popularity here.

Which to me is the revival of the 90s, when we had a lot of local movies and content that was competing here with Hollywood successfully, even if it was directed on budget.

Is everyone pretty much DONE with superhero movies and tv shows?
It's like the zombie shit they played out years ago.

I don't think people are "DONE" with the content so much that most of the stories are very played out and formula driven. Disney/Marvel in particular are pretty bad about not creating any real tension or consequence (more below).

and now they are trying to milk starwars.

An example of this, is that Disney/Lucas Star Wars has used a light saber through the gut a total of 4 times in recent TV and Movies, and the characters lived through it... this should simply not be the case... It absolutely should be a fatal blow. Hot plasma burning essential organs should mean death. At least the got that right in Episode 1. They removed consequences.

And while the Andor series was pretty good, and the first couple seasons of Mandalorean were good, the studio (Kennedy) just seems to have too much influence over the movies and series and compelling story is lost over "flawless" characters, or characters that don't learn.

Episode 4 of Ahsoka was better than the other three, but still not great. Ray Stevenson is one of the few bright points in the series, and the only character who seems to match the stoicism the character should have. Sabine and Hera don't match their animated counterparts at all and Ahsoka herself seems a bit off. Savine, Hera and Ahsoka all seem to be stoic for no real reason, and lacking other character in order to hide any potential character flaws, or ability to grow as parts.

I think there's still room for super hero and scifi driven stories, but they have to be good. Have decent motivation, character development and work for it. For as bad as Game of Thrones ended, at least they did interresting things, like killing off main characters through the seasons. Disney seems absolutely incapable of this anymore.

They just feel all the same to me. Every other movie I've watched in the Marvel category of late I've ended up tuning out and doing something else - just leaving it on in the background.

They follow a very similar formula arch over the movies... the characters are slightly different but the pacing is much the same, and there's no real tention or risk in any of it. If they did something different, leave the ending with a bad guy winning, or a character that actually grows, or someone of significance actually dying (I don't think Iron Man in infinity war quite counts since it's more of a one off that people knew was coming).

I've had Disney+ since it launched here in 2019 but just cancelled my subscription as I haven't seen anything of note released for a while that's not from Marvel.

You can't get Hulu without Disney+, but may be dropping that since we aren't using the Live TV feeds as much lately.

And while I did enjoy the first one, Shazam Fury of the Gods was another waste of time. I really wanted to like it as I love Helen Mirren and enjoyed the first one but I couldn't get into it.

Blue Beetle was fun, similar to first Shazam, not great but fun. May want to give "Invincible" and "The Boys" a look on Amazon. Quite a bit different than the formula shows.

I heard they're (finally) making a sequel to Beetlejuice, with Michael Keaton and Wynona Rider returning, set to be released next year.
I'd been hearing rumors about this since around 2012 or so, but now it sounds like it's actually happening.

With the SAG-AFRA strike(s), I think almost everything is on hold and may not see nearly as much this next year or so. Would be happy to see another Beetlejuice all the same.

characters lived through it... this should simply not be the case... It absolutely should be a fatal blow. Hot plasma burning essential organs should mean death. At least the got that right in Episode 1. They removed consequences.

Also an apt metaphor for the franchise as a whole.

Disney seems absolutely incapable of this anymore.

I just think they don't try anymore.

I enjoyed "The Boys", love the trope of a world where superheroes are
    the norm.

There was an ITV series called "No Heroics", about a world full of
superheroes. It was a Friends-like storyline with some b-list
superheroes, like ElectroFlash, a woman who can talk to machines (and
uses her powers to get money and cigarettes from ATMs and vending
machines), a man with a drinking problem and the ability to see 30
seconds into the future, and The Hotness, a guy who can make small
fires on his hands - he's seen using his powers to heat a microwave
entree at home in front of telly.

A similar movie came out years ago called "Mystery Men", it's pretty entertaining if you like the trope.

They just feel all the same to me. Every other movie I've watched in the Marvel category of late I've ended up tuning out and doing something else
    - just leaving it on in the background.

That's a good point, some of the comics deal with people unprepared for
power being thrust upon them and you end up with college kids and high
school kids with unique powers forced to figure out what to do with
them/how to use them. They don't really delve into that, except a bit
    with Spiderman.

I'd not say West as whole. I'd rather limit it to "Hollywood blockbusters".
I dunno. Most time I come across something modern that is still good, it is Asian.

There are some outstanding exceptions, but I am not optimistic about our industry.

Spanish cinema is based on government handouts so Spanish movies are the voice
of the government because the government pays the bills.

Nah, the problem lies on the Spaniard. Santiago Segura did a parody on
the rancid Francoist Spaniard (ancient and tacky old fart, imagine

Nolan's Batman was touching that a bit, but from totally different angle.

It's like the zombie shit they played out years ago.

Zombie movies are great. Army of the Dead was great, then the prequel Army of Thieves, great. I could watch Mila Jovovich forever.

and now they are trying to milk starwars.

What's the common denominator with hero films and Star Wars? Disney. Talk about a company that has completely lost touch with their founder's vision. Even the new movie Wish is just a pile of uncreative nonsense that still manages to "reimagine" old Disney tropes into more of the same ole same ole. I get the whole inclusivity movement, but I feel like it's causing some issues at the house of mouse.

But don't get me wrong, I don't think I'll ever be tired of superhero stuff, if my random comic collection is any indicator, I'll never be done with the superhero genre. Across the Spiderverse (which went managed to go full inclusivity, but wasn't shitty, because you cared about the characters), and the newest TMNT were both amazing! They can milk a genre for as much as they want, as long as they take risks and hire good writers, I'll never be tired.

With the exception of Andor (amazing compared to other just about anything else Star Wars related last year), Star Wars needs help. Dave Filony (sp?) was hired as CCO for Star Wars stuff at Disney. He won't have his hand on everything, but at least he can pull the plug if shit goes off the rails. Gotta get Katherine (I think that's her) out of the drivers seat. That b-word knows nothing about making movies.

Torrente it's obviously a nasty satire about the 'idiotic, rancid, old-fasioned, tacky and misoginyst Spaniard' everyone mental
and socially sane got repressed in his 'soul' because of the social
    context adminiring the 'Spaniard macho'.

The -global- social trait it's called "franquismo sociológico",
    (sociological Francoism);
that's it, the Francoist's social traits surpassed the end of the
Francoism regime and they affected several generations of
democracy-born people because of the adoctrination of the previous
    generations.

That trait affected men and women equally even under Democracy.
Maybe people woudn't be as religious, (Spain it's just Catholic in
name, no one goes there to the church except on weddings and inside
a coffin), but people over 45 got lots of similar bullshit
    such as horoscopes.
also, there's a big lack of critical thinking
in lots of social and political news.

Thus, it's not a figure to be admired, but to avoid as much as possible.
He is not a good guy at all. He is macho-figure embracing fascist, hypocrite illegal drug abuser, (because Francoism forbid illegal drugs, yet he
snorted cocaine...), backstabber, borderline pedophile, mysoginist,
xenophobe up to the point of physically attacking non-Spaniards/non-whites...
