• HB1BBS Access?

    From Clifford E Carnicom@VERT/OLDTMBBS to ALL on Tue Jul 5 04:32:02 2022
Hi, I am learning about ham packet radio and am trying to learn how to access the HB1BBS online. I apparently do not have telnet capability with my telephone hotspot. I have sent an email request with no response thus far. I do not know what credentials (i.e., password) is to be used to gain access to the web server bbs. I understand the username is the ham radio callsign. Does anyone know how I go about getting access to the ham radio online H1BBS?

I found this site by serendipity and persistence, somehow I found myself to a full screen web browser format, so this site is very wonderful to see! 73 de N0LKC

I've attempted to connect via syncTerm to the HB1BBS.NET BBS (which I believe is Mystic based) and I just get "Connecting.." without ever connecting. I checked an "is it down" service, but nothing seemed wrong, it was "up." I'm not sure how to connect to it, I'll try maybe just a terminal (perhaps it is expecting a utf-8 encoding..?) But so far no success. As far as radio packet BBS, I'm also interested in connecting to them, and getting one up. I am located in Morgantown, WV USA. I have a kantronics KAMPlus and a random length wire antenna. If you are relatively close, maybe you'd like to set up a packet communication? Good luck getting HB1BBS to work for you. -Greg

    Hi Greg,
Thanks very much for your reply here, great to find someone with a mutual interest. I am first time BBS user in about 40 years so it will be bit awkward to navigate for a while. I did manage to get telnet working so that is making my
bbs exploration a lot easier now. My experience is the same as yours on hb1bbs, so I am not going to fret too much now since I have telnet working and can start to explore other options and places as well. I have seen reference to a couple of bpq ham bbs's so I will start with that and see if I can find anything. I'm on western side of US now in MT (travel slowly full time) so probably never make it direct but that is one reason I am here, is to learn if packet is active in the bbs/telnet world to see if connections can be made there. My first goal is to see if I could forward a message from one ham bbs to another. I have managed to hook up by packet to a bbs about a 100 miles from me here but they do not seem to forward any messages so it seems like a total dead end here and i seem to be the only active packet station for 100-200 miles around, not sure. My call is N0LKC and would be great to keep in contact with you to see if we can do any packet or bbs radio oriented networking. My email address is ok on QRZ also. Hope to keep in touch on any progress we can make between us, many thanks, from Clifford N0LKC portable in MT.
