Hi All,
I've just started a new BBS - my first interaction with a BBS
since the 90s, so I'm rusty.
I've got the web interface setup through web4, but the default
image in the ftelnet box is broken up with black horizontal lines
across it. I can't for the life of me figure out exactly what is
causing it. It should be visible at https://bofhnet.au
Seems to be consistent across browsers. It's only the default
image. Once you connect via Telnet, it appears to display
correctly.
Appreciate any hints I can get.

Best of luck to you, guessing the BOFH is the old Bastard
Operator From Hell usenet series that came out in the 1990s?

I just left you a message to save in 79 rows instead of 80, opps, I
meant to say collumms. 79x24 should work nicely.

Hahaha, love the BOFH. I actually have a cron job on a Linux box that
emails me a quote each morning using the 'fortunes' program, and
sometimes they are "BOFH quotes". Still makes me laugh. :-)

Sounds/looks like your text/synch.ans file has extra extracters. Try re-downloading/overwriting that file (i.e. from https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/blob/master/text/synch.ans)

Well.... I'm not the one with the problem, but hopefully "Dave" sees
your response.

The stock screen works fine and should not require a sysop to re-save it with different dimensions. There's a different issue at hand here.

Should be able to save 80-columns, just need to test what you're
doing... can't use a character in the very bottom-right position though, I cheated by putting a clear screen with a different background in mine...

IIRC, I was using PabloDraw, but Moebius should work to.

LOL, i'm still using TheDraw. The only time I use PabloDraw is when
I'm making *.MSG files. I've got Moebius loaded on the system, but I
really don't like using it.

i prefer thedraw and aciddraw. they are superior.
you dont even need pablo for .msg files. just use the conversion utility.
also pablo puts that stupid ass sauce into everything.
I love the conversion program, but pablodraw let's me display them real easy. besides, I've modded most of my menus with special fonts, so I end up editing them with a plain text file, as PabloDraw strips out most of the special codes used for the special fonts for some reason.
also pablo puts that stupid ass sauce into everything.
Yeah, that sucks, but it's easy to go in and delete the sauce info, and since I have to inser some of the special font codes, it's not an issue anymore. I prob should go back to all ans/asc files, and save myself a lot of headaches..lol
i've found those fonts to be annoying.
i just called your bbs and for some reason i was detected as mono using syncterm.
you also might want to give your users a quick way to get through all that logon stuff you have.

Yeah, I don't even know if/where my reg'd copy of TheDraw went over the years... haven't touched it in forever. I remember, I used to often
wind up saving, then tweaking the final output a bit to place the cursor exactly where I want it... usually saving block mode 79x23 for full screen... since so many display programs handled the end of line and wrapping slightly differently.
I know what you mean. I don't think there is a absolute perfect
program. No matter what I use, I still end up tweaking it. I'm to
much of a perfectionest to settle for anything. For the most part,
I'm happiest using TheDraw. I guess after 35+ years of this stuff,
I still find the old ways the easiest and most friendly to use.

Indeed. I've been a fan of the Bastard for a long time. Simon helped me survive the hell desk and then given me plenty of great... problem solving... ideas as a sysadmin. It seems appropriate to help keep the spirit alive.
to mention other things. I used to know RIPscrip codes like the back of my hand too... been too long since separated from touching a lot of this that I just feel out of touch in a lot of ways. Motivation is much
harder to come by as I get older.
A couple of jobs ago, we had a clipboard with ACCOUNTS TO DELETE written in sharpie on the back. Walking around with that in the office, tapping it with a pen, was a great way to get from point A to point B without luser questions.

Do those run command prompt without anything special? In newer Windows, that is.

Does PD even edit those right? I don't think it helped me with .msg files at all.

Agreed. I always have to vi that crap out.

Synchronet strips/ignores SAUCE records in display files automatically and even uses the metadata at times. It's not stupid.
