This is a shot in the dark, but could you find a version of tcpser that would work on the 286? That should create the "virtual serial port" you are looking for. I have not done this, but thought it might be an option.

I'll look around and see what I can find.

So far all I've come up with when searching for DOS telnet drivers/Virtual modems ect is RLFOSSIL which is a telnet fossil driver for BBSes that apparently will use a standard packet driver for the networking side of things.

I don't now how GT's terminal client works (I have yet to look around for it) but if it can use fossil drivers that may be an option.

So far my limited research hasn't turned up anything VMODEM like for win 3.1 or dos but I'll keep looking.

Could always look at a WiModem, looks and answers to AT commands like a modem for the system its on, but connects to wifi and completes a telnet session.

The only thing I've seen that will behave something like a vmodem for DOS is RLFOSSIL, but its only going to be of value with something FOSSIL compliant, anything doing direct port writes will fail.
