  • archive.org = lots of films

    I have been somewhat familiar with archive.org in the past, but
    by some seredipity/chance/fluke or whatever, I happened to look
    for classic hollywood films and discovered that there are quite
    lot available for download! I was particularily impressed with
    the colourized versions of some familiar classics. I liked
    that they even have a category for film noir (a favourite
    genre). Overall, the archive.org seems better and more
    organized since the last time I dropped by several years ago.

    It really is pretty impressive what's been made accessable on The Internet Archive over the past half decade. Pretty big archives of all kinds of content years ago I couldn't find: including many films.

    In fact until recently the restored original versions of Star Wars were on there, but they did get taken down. Should have snagged them but the 50gb+ size per film were a bit much to commit to downloading.

    You can find some weird stuff, too: what looked like a perfectly normal early 80's film turned out to be.. uh.. adult entertainment... after the first 15 minutes and I had no clue it would go that way but that's the risk you take just watching anything that looks interesting, I guess.

    archive.org IS the files.bbs. LOL - its the one archive I don't have the balls to take on!

    You know - if there was one project I'd love to work on it would be archive.org! I do listen to Jason Scott's podcast and streams and theres so much work that he puts in, tho - I'm sure its a lot more hard work than awesomeness...
