Is it safe to start a debrief chat about season 5 yet? Does anyone need more time to watch episode before I start posting x,y,z about what I thought :)

Talk all you like... I'm not one for getting bent out of shape on spoilers.

I'm somewhere around Episode 5 for this I think.. maybe further. Its not a bad season overall. I wasn't super into the middle seasons of this.. ie. the alternate universe crap. I can tolerate it on a single or double episode level but I've never liked it much. A whole season of it is a bit of a turn off for me. I also found the 'wokeness' of it to be a bit overbearing in this show. I get it.. we're accepting of lgbt etc. in the future.. for the most part, we are in the 21st century as well with caviats. Wouldn't it just be a non issue tho? Like sure.. so and so is trans.. but why make a story around it. Wouldn't we be so past all that bullshit that we wouldn't just have someone trans or non binary walking around without having to make note of it? or at least making note of it when coming into contact with a species that has those attributes.

Without bringing a debate to the table for the community, I just kinda think that in the future we wouldn't go looking for that information. It just seems like Hollywood pandering to me as opposed to useful story. I'm sure thats gonna get me called a bigot in some circles but whatever. I'm not.. so anyone who wants to throw that crap around can gladly keep it to themselves. It really is OK to question things and still not look down on them.

Anyone waiting to see the finale, what are you waiting for?

Just don't tell me what happens in the conclusion of "Best of Both

    There it is..

One comment I have about that is that 'straight representation' is a product of its time... majority rules... most people where straight in their eyes generally speaking.. media is going to cater. Media has finally woken up to the idea that 'well shit, there are other people in the world' and are looking for growth into markets. Sure.. its great to have representation but the obvious pairing off for really no reason seemed to pander rather then represent. Seriously.. it was everywhere even in straight representing relationships. Startrek was always about fostering in advanced beliefs... inclusivity... it was subtle. The stupidity of todays world was looked back on as barbarism but not dwelled upon. If they wanted to address an issue, they did it in an episode, not the whole f'n series. Why is full on bigotry always assumed?

Wasn't bait. I prefer to think of it as a rational argument against overdoing an issue (in this case LGBT issues) in media.

I feel like some of those hetero relationships are depicted with "TMI".
Those are the ones I have issues with, hetero or lgbt or otherwise.

I also find it a little difficult to believe a show I am watching where
an originally very "heteroly active" female character turns out to be gay,
and most of the cast introduced after that point turns out to be gay,
except for the lead character who has a thing for a ghost. I don't think
that properly depicts the actual make-up of society, even in a sci-fi
    show.

I don't have any issues with two people being depicted as a couple so
long as it is realistic and not TMI.

It's hard to avoid, they thrive on it.

I haven't been watching Discovery so no opinion from me on that show, I'm so behind on Star Trek I haven't made it past TNG. :)

On a different topic, I recently watched the movie The Fall Guy - I guess it is loosely based on the TV series from the 80s, though I never watched that series so I can't speak to how faithful it is. I've been finding that I am a big fan of Ryan Gosling, and this role was no exception - The Fall Guy was a really funny and enjoyable movie. The plot follows a stuntman (Ryan gosling) working on his ex-girlfriend's (Emily Blunt) film, only to find himself involved in a conspiracy. Lots of fun, lots of action!

in seriousness tho, i've enjoyed pretty much all Trek with the exception of Enterprise. couldn't make past season 1 of Picard but i've been told it picks up after it. i'm an outlier staunch Voyager fan :P

i get a lot of the criticism Discovery got in the first season, it did some pretty piss poor choices (we all remember the S1 Klingons) but i think once
it grew into its own story it became pretty classic Trek. do give it a shot when you can :)

now i'm waiting for the next season of Strange New Worlds...

I just see that on every show, every movie, they "force" the issue on the watcher - like you commented : .. to finally bring around something that has been around for decades but everyone called it a voodoo subject. I mean, I'm old enough to remember people loosing their minds when someone kissed someone on screen .. oh and then years later someone showed skin and they tried to make it a rated single X. I'm not old enough to remember live black and white shows (but have seen re-runs) where the wife in the marriage was working instead of staying at home and making meals - society about rioted.

As we start changing and evolving in society, Hollywood tries to make their changes all at once to make up for it. Most of us fans see it as being this WOKE state.

Only ISSUE I have is this (and fair warning, someone will not get it or will take offense to it, etc.):

Unless you were born a Hermaphrodite, you were born as a Male or a Female. Plain and simple. I do understand as I get older that this doesn't mean that is your sexual orientation at all - be as you are and live as you will. We will also start changing and understanding as well, but change has ALWAYS taken time for those who refuse to see it.

Figuring some things out in the first season and then having a great second season doesn't sound too unusual, I think? Seems like I've heard a lot of people had that opinion of TNG also.

now i'm waiting for the next season of Strange New Worlds...

I have so many Treks to catch up on! haha
